So here we were again, fitting a snippet of our larger trip into a brief stint before we went back to finishing our book. Afterall, we had promised ourselves we wouldn’t go on our big adventure until we were published. Still, sometimes life calls you away, and so it was that my partner and I were in our car, tent and accoutrements piled in the back, making our way to a weeklong adventure in Merimbula in order to coincide with his family’s yearly holiday there; a holiday with just so happens to encompass both my partner’s and his mother’s birthdays. So what of the first day? Well, after a nigh on four hour drive, although we had stayed the previous night in a motel at a halfway point so that we wouldn’t have to drive a full eight hours in one go, we arrived, a little weary, at our pre-booked campsite in the touristy beach town of Merimbula in New South Wales. It must be noted at this point that with Sydney in a lockdown from yet another Covid outbreak, we had been tentative about venturing interstate. Holding our breath and hoping for the best though, we had gambled that the perpetually hesitant leader of this corner of Australia was unlikely to lockdown the entire state, and given that we were only around an hour away from our own state’s border, that if a border closure was announced, we would be able to make it back to…
