Some days, you just have to wake up and say, ‘Today needs to be a rest day,’ and that is what our three-hundred and ninety-third day was destined to be. Finally, after more than three months on the move, the stars had aligned for a day of little obligation. And by stars aligned I mean we’d crammed in extra things in the previous day, the forecast was non-stop rain, and we were both still clinging to lingering illness. Sufficed to say, we rose slowly, spent ninety-eight percent of our time in our pyjamas, and only left the caravan park because we needed to buy groceries.
The rain was constant, but inside the relative dry of our tent’s front room, we managed to catch up on all the things we had been so lagging behind on. In all honesty, the most exciting part of the day occurred just as we were trying to get to sleep. A possum, lured by our own lack of forethought, crept in, climbed up on the table, and stole some of our chocolate. The adorable little bastard. Note to self: put food in the car before bed.
We rose the next day with high hopes. The sun was shining, and the sky was only bearing a few scattered clouds. As such, we readied ourselves for a day of finishing off the last few attractions around Port Stephens. Cobbling ourselves into functional adult shapes, we were just about to…
