Another night in our slantly-pitched tent had seen us slide once more towards the bottom corner, but at least our mattress rotation had made the sleep slightly more bearable. Still, we were less than spritely by the time we stirred, and with the forecast predicting afternoon rain, we headed out, ready but not entirely eager for adventure.
Starting with something simple, our first location for the day was Cape Banks Lighthouse. You know, because I can’t resist a good lighthouse. This one, unlike the majority of its cousins along the coast, is not your standard scarlet-capped ivory tower, but rather a stark spire of bright red topped with an inversely white roof, unmissable on its clifftop perch. Also, unlike many of its historic kin, this one actually still functions for its original purpose, although there is no longer any need for a keeper to be in attendance. As such, all of the old support buildings no longer exist, and it has left the building as a solitary structure surrounded by otherwise undisturbed nature. That is, of course, save for the small lookout platform, the plaque, and the information boards retelling the tale of the fateful shipwreck of the Admella close by.
