Surprise, surprise, we awoke to another sunny day on Cradle Mountain, and by sunny I mean it was pelting down with rain once again. To be honest, I’m not sure why I even turned my thunderstorm soundtrack on overnight because by the looks of outside it hadn’t let up at all: everything was drenched and dripping as far as the eye could see. This wasn’t great news for a pair of travellers planning on going on a three-hour hike, but we were holding out hope the weather forecast was at least partially accurate and the downpour would let up by eleven. Like the champion he is, my partner crept out into the cold first, turning on the heater so that I might migrate from the warmth of the bed, to the warmth of the fire as I creaked out of bed, my legs still aching from the previous day’s adventure.
With the rest of the breakfast hamper consumed, the majority of yesterday’s items relatively dry and slipped back on, and our sprawled out bags once again repacked, we bid farewell to our cosy cabin, checked out, and trundled off south. The rain continued to pummel us as we drove, windscreen wipers frantically attempting to clear the view , but as we reached the carpark outside the local public amenities in the small town of Rosebery, things had eased to a light drizzle and the sky was clearing; a positive sign.
