I’m fast learning that packing up wet, muddy tents is not a favourite pastime of mine, especially when an annoying amount of drizzle joins in the effort. Still, to move on, one must do things they don’t always enjoy.
On the road again, we bid farewell to Wye River and began our journey to Apollo Bay. Of course, there were a few stops along the way, the first being Cape Patton Lookout. Just like the countless other viewpoints dotted along the Great Ocean Road, the panorama was one for the memory bank. The white-capped waves crashed over dark rock, playing with the juxtaposition of storm clouds dotting blue skies to provide the kind of moody scene my heart adores.
Next along the way was a short walk to yet another of the area’s plethora of waterfalls: Carisbrooke Falls. Although we missed the unmarked turn off at first, and the track was steep, it was hard to be annoyed as we reached the viewing platform. The waterfall itself might have been off in the distance, but it only served to add to its majesty, its height impressive even from afar, its lush green surrounding acting as the perfect frame.
