Another day dawned, and with a quieter agenda on the cards, I rose slowly. As glorious as it was, we had a tour to make, and so we headed out just after ten, driving across town to the Royal Australian Mint. This somewhat unassuming building, for those not in the know, is the birthplace of the country’s coins. That’s right, every shiny disc we fling at each other for goods comes from here.

Milling around the shop as we waited, we checked out some of the limited edition, uncirculated coins they have on offer. It was the collectible coin folders that caught me eye, though. After all, I already collect all the special release coins I can find, and finally having somewhere to organise them was a tempting thing. I would have time to ponder, however, as we made our way upstairs for the tour.

We, along with a number of families obviously in search of entertainment for their kids over the school holidays, gathered around, and we were met by our friendly guide…
