Day followed night, as it was wont to do, and we indulged in a sleep in, as much as you can when your check out time is 10am. Stepping outside we took a long moment to admire the view which the waning light had robbed us of the previous day. Looking out, it was easy to see why so many people elect the Amalfi coast as their holiday destination of choice. I mean why choose the beach or the mountains when you can have both. The low-lying clouds shrouded the peaks, and the terra cotta roofs stood proudly amongst the lush green. As gorgeous as it was here though, we had a long drive ahead of us as we made our way from the shin of Italy’s boot, to its arch, and the historic town of Matera.
Tearing ourselves away, we were soon back in the car, showtunes playing as we wound back down the mountain and rejoined the terror inducing coastal road. The scenery really is spectacular here; the only downside is that there are barely any places to stop and really drink it in.
