The sun rose and the celebratory drinks of the previous night had made for a less than rejuvenating sleep (note to self: alcohol and early mornings do not mix). Opening my eyes, I found myself feeling well below par and so I did what any sensible person in my situation would do. I rolled back over and went back to sleep. When I awoke again an hour later, I can confidently say I felt no better for it. Still, the day was marching on, and I couldn’t just lie around feeling sorry for myself. Thus I managed to cobble my sensibilities into something resembling a function adult, and we got started.
Luckily, the day had a less than full agenda, and deferring one stop to the next day, we made our way to the first of our two remaining tasks. Reaching the carpark, we hopped out to take in the view of the Murray Mouth Lookout. Now, for those of you unfamiliar with the geographical layout of the Australian states, the Murray River is a wildly long waterway that acts as the border between Victoria and New South Wales. It doesn’t stop there, though, it continues onwards into South Australia until it reaches the Southern Ocean here, just outside the town of Goolwa.
