I woke with a start to the sound of the wind flapping the canvas of the tent and realised in that moment that I might be dealing with some lingering wind-based trauma. The panic pounded in my chest until I finally realised that the tent wasn’t breaking around me and the breeze was moderate at best. Still, it was barely daybreak, and I could manage little more than dozing until I finally gave in and clambered out of bed. After all, we had a pretty hectic day of adventuring on the cards, especially since we’d added half of the previous day’s agenda to it.
Starting out with something easy, we headed off to Blanche Point and its lookout over Port Willunga Beach. Wandering down the ramp from the clifftop carpark, we allowed our senses to come into focus with a casual stroll along the beach. The breeze at our back egged us on, and we watched as the sand caught on its stream and danced off into the distance. It was peaceful and calm, and before we knew it, we’d wandered further than expected, turning back as we acknowledged our legs would need their strength for the rest of the day.
