The morning brought with it our plans to travel to the opposite side of the Kangaroo Island in search of yet another lighthouse. It is important to note here that my partner was very much rolling his eyes at the idea of driving almost two hours to do so. Still, he went along with it, if only to humour me.

Lunch packed and we were soon hitting the road, the journey filled with much pointing out of places we’d already seen, as though we were driving down a literal memory lane. You see, there are only a few roads that service the entire island. On the upside, it makes it fairly easy not to get lost.

Eventually, we turned onto another of the island’s iconic dirt roads, bumping our way between potholes until we reached our destination: Cape Willoughby Lighthouse. As we pulled up, both of us whispered a quiet sorry to our poor little, dirt-covered Rav 4, who I’m sure, at this point, was wistfully reminiscing about when he was owned by a little Lebanese lady who only used him to go to the supermarket a couple of times a week. Still, we are offering him a life of purpose and adventure, so he should be grateful.
