Awaking from the first solid sleep I’d had in quite some time, I rose from bed to find the weather outside the cabin far more agreeable than the last week or so. The sun was shining, the clouds in the distance only looked mildly menacing, and the winds was little more than a medium level breeze. Sure, it was still a bit brisk, but I’d take that over the alternative any day. As such, we made the decision to save ourselves some money and not indulge in another night of upgraded accommodation. Instead, we handed in our key and set about pitching our tent before we started the day’s adventure.

All went well. My sewing seemed to be holding fine, and the middle tent poles were standing despite their lack of crossbeam. Our only enemy would be a dumping of rain, but the forecast was clear, and so we headed off fairly confidently to our main attraction: Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park.

With our jackets wrapped tightly around us to keep off the biting chill, we wandered in, purchasing tickets along with two spots on the animal encounter that had drawn us there in the first place, but more on that later. Stepping out into the park, and with a good hour and a half before our encounter, we began our meander around the exhibits.
