The day had finally come, a day a year and a half in the making, a day which would see us head to a place I had seen in a photo once, looked at the price, and thought ‘I might listen to the voice on my left shoulder this time’. You see, back before COVID was reaping havoc on the world, when I was trying to decide where I wanted to be for my thirtieth birthday seeing as we weren’t going to be in a position financially to be overseas, I had stumbled upon an article on some of the most unique places to stay in Australia. Now, anyone who knows me well will tell you that of all my useless special skills, staying in the bath for an inordinate amount of time is definitely high on the list of things I excel in. I’m the kind of person who can lose themself in a book, or music, or just their own fantastical thoughts for so long in a bath they won’t realise its been five hours. The kind of person whose parents used to knock on the door of the bathroom at intervals just to make sure I hadn’t drowned. So, when I stumbled upon a photo spruiking an outdoor bath on a deck overlooking the ocean, with no nearby neighbours and its own private stretch of beach, my heart overtook my brain.
