Awaking to the sound of rain on canvas might be peaceful but waking up to the sound of cockatoos screeching over the sound of rain on canvas most certainly is not. They’re cute and native and all that, but my god are they loud. Of course, I could have happily enjoyed the rain from the safety of my sleeping bag, but we had plans to go on a 12km hike, and a little rain wasn’t going to thwart our plans. As such, we reluctantly yielded our warm place in the bed, cobbled together a packed lunch, and headed off without too much ado.
Much to our gratitude, the rain did us the courtesy of stopping as we made the short drive to the carpark, and we were stepping onto the Currawong Falls Loop Track before we knew it. This track, I’m sure it won’t surprise you to learn, takes a long loop around to Currawong Falls. Before we got there, however, we had a good six or so kilometres to cover in the meantime.
