Woken once again by the sounds of tiny feet and the amusing attempts of a toddler to be quiet, we night owls rolled out of bed weary as ever. It is awfully hard to be grumpy for too long at a child that just wants to say hello to you, and I headed out to the day’s adventure sporting the lingering affects of a tiny hug.
Taking the train into the city once more, we stepped out into the bright daylight of Circular Quay. Our morning plan was to wake up slowly with a lazy sightseeing cruise around the harbour. When we arrived at the dock, however, it was to discover that the only company that had its stall open didn’t run tours on Mondays or Tuesdays. Sigh. Well, so much for that plan.
With our major attraction out of our reach, we decided to opt for a more freestyle kind of day, turning to the Botanic Gardens and reasoning that we would simply see where the day took us. The sun was shining down from cloudless skies, and the temperature was starting to feel much more like spring than the tail end of winter. As such, we meandered slowly, peeking in through the fence of Government House to find the reason for the sound of background jazz riding on the breeze: a garden party.
