Feeling mildly better upon waking, but still far below a hundred percent, I dragged myself out of bed, pulled myself together, and packed my things into the car beside the other luggage. Seeing that we had ventured outside, our host popped round from next door to show us his tortoise, and as a lover of turtles and their terrestrial cousins, it was a brief moment of random joy to begin our day with, and a pleasant distraction from the general feeling that my head was going to explode.
Bidding our new shelled friend farewell we bundled in and took off on our journey to the morning’s destination of choice, the Archaeological Park of Neapolis. You see, it was not just Agrigento which once played host to the Greeks, Syracuse was once also one of the Greek Empires most important cities. Keeping this in mind it is not surprising to discover that there are quite a few noteworthy ruins remaining of this former European powerhouse. The most interesting of these ruins reside within the bounds of the archaeological park, and thus we were making the journey to ogle them.
Now, unlike many attractions, finding a parking spot on the street out the front proved to be a simple enough task. Paying for said parking however, proved to be much harder, with the meters only spitting out tickets for those with the…
