The day had finally come, a day a year and a half in the making, a day which would see us head to a place I had seen in a photo once, looked at the price, and thought ‘I might listen to the voice on my left shoulder this time’. You see, back before COVID was reaping havoc on the world, when I was trying to decide where I wanted to be for my thirtieth birthday seeing as…

There are many things that are pleasant to wake up to, but few are better than a loaf of warm bread, and luckily for us, our accommodation came with a freshly delivered bag of breakfast goodies, including just such a delight. Along with a selection of spreads, and cute little ramekins of fruit and yoghurt, I was almost forgiving of the early hour as I sat and devoured jam slathered toast to the sounds of bird calls and gentle waves.

Another chilly morning was right there to greet us as we packed up our things and tumbled into the car early to get on with another day of adventure. First stop for the morning was Mount Wellington, or Kunyani in the local Aboriginal dialect. Weaving through traffic, we were soon winding our way up the narrow mountain road: the kind of road that makes passing a minibus full of tourists feel like a precision art. Reaching the top without incident…

Awaking to an uncharacteristically sunny day, albeit still cloud dappled and cold, we were up and out the door fairly quickly. Breakfast had been put off for the sheer fact our trip had lined up our days so that we would get to enjoy Hobart on a Saturday, and anyone who has ever been here will tell you there is one must visit destination if you find yourself in that scenario, the Salamanca Market. …

The day may have been cold and cloudy when we rose, but at least it wasn’t raining. Good news considering much of our day would be spent on the road, and as we all know, driving in heavy rain is not fun. Our room had come with continental breakfast included and as we walked into the dining room to indulge, we were pleased to find that the tables are covered in hints and activities to do in the area. Moving…

Surprise, surprise, we awoke to another sunny day on Cradle Mountain, and by sunny I mean it was pelting down with rain once again. To be honest, I’m not sure why I even turned my thunderstorm soundtrack on overnight because by the looks of outside it hadn’t let up at all: everything was drenched and dripping as far as the eye could see. This wasn’t great news for a pair of travellers planning on going on a three-hour hike, but…

Weather is a fickle mistress, and seemingly aware that the day’s plan involved extensive amounts of hiking, we were met with a downpour as we pushed back the curtains to greet the day. Determined not to be deterred from our plans, I cooked up some eggs and bacon for breakfast from the hamper of goodies we had purchased the previous evening, packed us a solid lunch from the groceries we had picked up in Burnie, and clad myself in as…

By the time I stirred on our anniversary, my partner was already up and pottering around in the other room. Rising from bed and wandering myopically to the bathroom to put in my contact lenses, I came out to find that he had written me a letter. Mildly annoyed, only because we had said no presents and I hadn’t done anything for him, I read it with a smile. It is important to note at this point that we don’t…

Today was the day, one of those days when we would have the pleasure of ticking something off of our bucket list. Now, there isn’t many things that inspire me to leave the warmth and comfort of sleeps arms at 4:30am, but sometimes sacrifices must be made. So, what was the big event? We were going to take a trip in a hot air balloon. …

Welcome back everyone. Look, I know I only just finished posting my Europe blogs, but in truth it has been over two years since we arrived back. Unless you have been living under a rock, you’ll be aware that a lot has happened since then. Mainly, of course, COVID 19 rocking up and seemingly turning the world into what can only be described as a dumpster fire. But hey, at least Donald Trump isn’t in charge of the US anymore…
